A little bit of nostalgia (and a poll)
When i was a kid we had a bit of a limited choice in the TV department. we had only one channel, and the programs we saw were a strange array of old British shows and newer American ones.my favorites were: “Fame”, “Degrassi”,”1,2,3 contact” and a British show called “the sandbaggers”. “fame” made me want to be a singing ballerina, “Degrassi” taught me not to get pregnant as a teen (apparently it gives you a really bad hair do…) but also showed me that ugly people can be on TV too.
But my all time favorite was “the sandbaggers”- it examined the effect of the espionage game on the personal and professional lives of British and American intelligence specialists. after seeing that show, there was no stopping me: i started watching “Remington steel”, read every Tom Clancy i could get my hands on and watched every spy movie i could see. for a really long time i was sure i have found my calling.age 12, but still….
Of course a couple of years later i found another obsession- i gave that “fame” thing another shot and sang my little heart out for a few years. I was actually quite good at it, but dropped it once i realized that just being “good” isn’t good enough.
Today, i still sing in the shower, and i read mysteries and see spy movies, and i remember “the sandbaggres” as one of the best TV shows I’ve ever seen.
After i realized that my boyfriend, who is only a year older then me, never even heard of the show, i looked it up and to my surprise found out that the show i remember as being so amazing, had only 20 episodes. It seems unconceivable to me that the show that had such impact on me was so short lived.it made me wonder: what other TV shows had an impact on people, and how many of them were “hits”?
so here’s a little poll for you:
What was your favorite TV show as a child/teen and was it a “hit” show? let me know your thoughs.
And here’s a little taste from the “sandbaggers”:
